Miracle-Gro:
A Series of Self

Photos from a lifetime ago, and a light year away. This is a documentation of the transition of grief. Planting softness in self and growing to love. Trimming away the dead and letting go. Propagating joy and receiving.

Surrendering: This is a series on surviving depression; a look in the mirror at the ways we’ve harmed ourselves, purposefully and unknowingly, ignoring our boundaries and choosing ourselves last. Featuring a Queer Black person reclaiming their life.

MĒSA SERIKALI

Mēsa Iyabo Serikali also known as Mēsa Pisa, explores photographywith an editorial and documentary approach and vibrant color schemes. She aims to illuminate the underrepresented in her bodies of work with a focus on Pan-African beauty and the Black diaspora.  There are no limitations to her art or her subjects. Serikali's bodies of work blend Pan-African culture and pop culture fashion together to tell stories, embark emotion and spark inspiration. Music is a driving force for the work she creates. Serikali works heavily with musicians to capture concerts, create cover art and capture the essence of their craft.

Serikali desires to accomplish an inviting and comfortable environment for anyone in front of the lens to emulate the most authentic natural state of ourselves, which she finds to be where true beauty and storytelling lies. She looks to capture the diversity and nuance of human experience in all subjects and themes of her art.

She is currently working on themes of self-image, home life and nostalgia while also transitioning into creative direction.
